The Myth about Social Security Benefits....

Social Security was never intended to be an individual nor a household's sole income, yet 80% of social security recipients report that is their sole income. This income in not enough, with the average individual receiving $1200/mo for cover all living expenses. Now, add the rising cost of inflation coupled with the social security fund being anticipated to run out by 2033 (LESS THAN 10 YEARS), now and sooner, rather than later, those below and above 62 years, collecting social security need to seek alternative methods of income.

"If you work while receiving social security benefits, you will lose your benefits."

In fact, You can work while you receive Social Security retirement or survivors benefits. When you do, it could mean a higher benefit for you and your family!

When you begin receiving Social Security retirement benefits, you are considered retired by the IRS. You can get Social Security retirement or survivors benefits and work at the same time. There are just a limit to how much you can earn and still receive full benefits.

If you are younger than full retirement age (67) and earn more than the yearly earnings limit, we may reduce your benefit amount. If you are under full retirement age for the entire year, we deduct $1 from your benefit payments for every $2 you earn above the annual limit. For 2023, that limit is $21,240.

In the year you reach full retirement age, we deduct $1 in benefits for every $3 you earn above a different limit. In 2023, this limit on your earnings is $56,520. We only count your earnings up to the month before you reach your full retirement age, not your earnings for the entire year.

Our Story

Comadre is Inspired by our moms and our desire to see them happy and healthy! Founded in August of 2020.

One is a recent widow and the other lives on the fixed income of her disability SSI.

Given our common experiences with our moms trying to seek proper benefits assistance, motivating them to stay active, and their growing isolation due to the pandemic, we sought to create a space that did just that!
